How to recover deleted files

Deleting a file and later regretting it is something we’ve all experienced. It’is difficult to recover a deleted file from a USB flash drive, but DiskDigger can help you out.

DiskDigger can recover files you have knowingly or unknowingly deleted from your computer and media peripherals such as USB flash drives, external hard drives, compact disks, and memory cards. It can recover images, media files, documents, partial files, and loads of different file formats with ease. It can even dig files from a reformatted hard disk and old hard disk drives as well as from your computer’s main hard drive and removable disks. But the most wonderful feature of DiskDigger is that it doesn’t require any installation, allowing you to run it from a portable device.

You can download the DiskDigger software from the Dmitry Brant website. The software is in zip format and can be extracted to your computer or your Ontop USB flash drive. A local directory with an executable file will be created on the specified location. DiskDigger can directly run from the executable file and doesn’t require installation. Double click the file to start the application.

When you run the DiskDigger file, it automatically lists all the drives in your system. This list also includes the internal as well as external drives. Select the drives your want to work with, or a part of a drive, from the advanced section and click ‘next’ to open another window where you will choose the type of scan you want to run to find the deleted files.

A ‘Deep scan’ will scan the files present on your flash drive, and search for deleted file entries while ‘Deeper scan’ will allow you to search all the sectors of your drive. The supported scan file systems are FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS.

Once you click ‘next’, DiskDigger will begin its search and list all the deleted files in the left panel. You can preview the file and explore the file details in the right panel. The preview section allows you to zoom in or zoom out. The file details include both basic and standard information.

You can also search the results by file name or part of a file name, or you can search by file size. The search tool makes it easier to find what you’re looking for.

Once you have found the files you were looking for, select them and click on ‘restore deleted files’. You can select a single file or multiple files at a time. You also get to choose where you want to put the restored file. The files will be restored with their default name on your computer and can be renamed after they’ve been restored.
